A Prince George’s County player is $100,000 richer after making a pit stop to get gas on the way to pick up his wife from work. Pastor Machado Benitez won a top prize playing the 50X The Cash scratch-off last weekend.

Pastor was playing chauffer on Saturday, driving family members here and there. The College Park resident was on his way to get his wife when he realized he needed gas. The lucky player stopped at Wawa #8521 in Adelphi and, while there, decided to play some scratch-off games. He decided on the $10 50X The Cash game.

“The first and second tickets were not winners, but the third one was $10,” said Pastor. He thought for a moment about what to do with the prize and decided to cash in his winning scratch-off and buy one more game. The loyal player scratched it off in the store.

“I saw the ‘X’ symbol and thought maybe I won $100,” said the winner. “But when I saw that $10,000, I thought, ‘Wow, this is big!’”

The “10X” symbol that Pastor revealed multiplied his win to $100,000. The construction worker quickly put away his lucky instant ticket, filled up his tank with gas and hurried to get his wife and share the awesome news.

Pastor showed his wife the winning scratch-off when she got in the car.

This winner planned to buy a home for his family with his prize.

“I was shocked,” said his wife, who accompanied her husband to claim the prize. The parents of two plan to use the prize toward a new home for the family.

Joining in the excitement is Wawa #8521. For selling the $100,000 top-prize winning scratch-off, the Prince George’s County retailer located at 9100 Riggs Road received a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery. Lottery District Manager Stan Lundy also delivered a promotional banner to the store to help market the location as a lucky Lottery retailer.

Its Lottery sales for the second and third quarter of Fiscal Year 2024 are off the charts. Wawa #8521 achieved 293.43% of its Lottery goal in the second quarter and 119.53% in the third quarter, which ended Sunday, March 24.

The store sells its games through a PHD and at the counter. Home to numerous Racetrax wins, Wawa #8521 has sold three five-figure winning tickets this year of $13,038, $12,836, $12,031 and, in 2023, two worth $16,193 and $12,015.

CONGRATULATIONS!
