LUCKY WINNER MANAGES TO KEEP COOL AFTER BIG SCRATCH-OFF WIN

A HYATTSVILLE SCRATCH-OFF ENTHUSIAST can thank his routine for helping him win a $50,000 top prize on a Deluxe Crossword scratch-off.
The 47-year-old likes to buy three instant tickets at a time. Lottery luck was waiting when he stopped by Shell Food Mart in Adelphi to purchase his three tickets. He scratched them off while still in the store, and knew right away that he was taking home a top prize. The Prince George’s County resident told Lottery officials that he just kept his cool and left the store.
Although the winner didn’t have any definitive plans for his prize, he said he might use the windfall for a vacation.
His lucky Lottery retailer, Shell Food Mart, is located at 7430 Riggs Road in Adelphi. The store owned by Malinda Suon wins, too. She collected a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling a $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off. Lottery District Sales Manager Stan Lundy delivered a promotional banner to the convenience store, too, so it could publicly celebrate Shell Food Mart’s lucky status.

The Prince George’s County business offers players a choice of 104 scratch-off facings, with the largest selection in the $5, $10 and $20 price range. A longtime Lottery retailer, Shell Food Mart also has a long history of selling top-prize winning tickets. The $50,000 Deluxe Crossword 8th Edition scratch-off sold in 2024 is just the latest in a long line of winning tickets.
Shell Food Mart also sold a $10,000 Hot 777 scratch-off this year. In 2023, it sold a $100,000 winning 50 Years! scratch-off, a $50,000 winning Powerball ticket and a $10,000 winning $10,000 Cash scratch-off. Since 2011, it has sold 19 prize-winning tickets of $10,000 or more.
